Snellville is a city located in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Snellville is approximately 45 minutes north of the City of Atlanta.
Snellville is named in honor of British immigrant, Thomas Snell. He moved to the United States in 1874 to live the American Dream.
The area where Snell lived near Stone Mountain was referred to as New London. Snell called the area Snellville. Snell operated a store known as “Snell and Sawyer’s.” His business partner, James Sawyer, was Snell’s childhood friend from England.
Sawyer married Emma Webb In 1883. The Webb family is a prominent family in the area.
The City of Snellville was incorporated in 1923.
